Rivers Begins Physical Verification For 10,000 Civil Service Jobs

In a significant development, the Rivers State Government has initiated the physical screening process for the 10,000 job positions within the state civil service. This action follows a directive by the former governor, Nyesom Wike, issued four months ago, instructing the State Civil Service Commission to proceed with the recruitment drive.

Reports indicate that a number of applicants have already received text messages inviting them to participate in the upcoming interviews. Shedding light on the selection process, Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Clifford Walter, revealed that out of the 10,000 applicants, only 7,000 individuals received invitations for interviews to join the mainstream civil service.

Walter further divulged that among the 10,000 openings, 2,000 positions have been allocated to the State Primary and Post-Primary Schools Board to bolster the state’s teaching workforce. Additionally, approximately 450 slots have been earmarked for the Judicial Service Commission and Health Management Board to facilitate the recruitment of judicial officers, doctors, and health professionals, respectively.

Walter explained, “The total number of youths to be employed is approximately 10,000. The governor, in his generosity, has directed that due to the shortage in the teaching sector of the service, 1,000 positions have been set aside for the Primary Schools Board to hire teachers. Similarly, another 1,000 slots are designated for the Post-Primary Schools Board for teacher recruitment. Furthermore, 250 positions are reserved for the Judicial Service Commission to appoint legal officers, among others, and about 200 positions for the Health Management Board to hire health officers and doctors.”

He added, “Consequently, we are left with a total of 7,500 positions in the mainstream civil service, which will be subject to interviews during this review period.”

Walter emphasized that following the physical verification process, successful applicants will receive official appointment letters. Our correspondent, who has closely monitored the recruitment proceedings, notes that interviews are being conducted in batches of 300 individuals per day. It is worth noting that Accounts officers and Administrative Officers have already undergone their interview evaluations as part of this comprehensive recruitment effort.
