University Courses Must Put Food On Table, Says Ebonyi Gov

In a recent interview on the Arise TV Morning Show, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State unveiled a comprehensive plan to overhaul the state’s education system.

Governor Nwifuru stressed the urgent need for Nigerian universities and higher education institutions to offer courses that equip graduates with practical skills, enabling them to find employment and support themselves.

During the interview, he stated, “We are completely revamping education in Ebonyi State. My vision is for practical education. I hold a degree in Building Technology, and in this field, hands-on experience is crucial. We must shift our educational focus to programs that directly benefit our graduates.”

He expressed concern about the current state of education, where many graduates struggle to secure jobs due to a lack of practical skills. Governor Nwifuru reiterated his commitment to reforming education in Ebonyi State, extending the reform from secondary schools to universities.

The governor emphasized that the courses offered by universities in the state must align with the job market’s demands, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for employment. He questioned the relevance of some existing courses and called for a shift towards courses that promote self-reliance and entrepreneurship.

Governor Nwifuru shared his own success story, highlighting that his practical skills acquired during his education allowed him to bypass the traditional job-seeking path and achieve his current position.

This bold initiative by Governor Nwifuru represents a significant step towards reshaping the educational landscape in Ebonyi State. It aims to produce graduates who are not only well-prepared but also capable of actively contributing to the state’s development and economic growth.
