The Presidential Election Petition Court, convened in Abuja, has granted permission for the live telecast of its impending judgments on three petitions aimed at challenging the presidency of Bola Tinubu.
In an official statement released by the Chief Registrar, Mr. Umar Bangari, the court articulated its commitment to transparency and openness throughout these pivotal proceedings.
The court has designated Wednesday for the pronouncement of its judgments and has decided to permit the live broadcast of this crucial event, affirming its dedication to ensuring that the public is well-informed about its decisions.
Nonetheless, the court cautioned that access to the courtroom on the designated day would be strictly regulated, permitting only accredited individuals, such as legal representatives and political party delegates, to enter.
The statement further underscored the option for interested members of the public to follow the proceedings via television broadcasts.
The trio of petitions, bearing the marks CA/PEPC/03/2023, CA/PEPC/05/2023, and CA/PEPC/04/2023, were presented before the court by key figures in Nigerian politics. Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, initiated one of the petitions. The other two petitions were brought forward by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), respectively.
On August 1, the five-member panel of the court, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, officially approved these cases for judgment after the involved parties concluded their final arguments.
