Nigeria’s FIFA Badge Referee Akintoye Selected For CAF Women’s Champions League

Prominent Nigerian Elite Referee and FIFA badge holder, Yemisi Akintoye, has been selected to officiate at the highly anticipated 2023 African Women’s Champions League, scheduled to take place in Cote d’Ivoire from November 5 to November 19.

Akintoye, a graduate of the University of Lagos, has earned recognition as one of the continent’s top arbiters. She was chosen from a pool of 17 referees shortlisted from across Africa, further solidifying her reputation. Her selection followed an intensive one-week pre-tournament course to ensure her readiness for the prestigious event.

A statement released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Monday officially confirmed Akintoye’s participation in the 2023 African Women’s Champions League. She will share the officiating duties with Salma Musaganda of Rwanda, a trailblazer who became the first African woman referee to officiate at the men’s World Cup.

Akintoye’s FIFA Referee badge, awarded in 2021, underscores her rising status in the world of officiating. She has already gained invaluable experience by presiding over various international competitions, including the WAFU Women Champion’s League and the Aisha Buhari Tournament, among others. Her participation in the 2023 African Women’s Champions League is a testament to her dedication and skill in the field of refereeing.
