First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu Commemorates Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) Launch Nationwide

In a poignant address, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, commemorated the launch of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) on December 21, 2023, under the theme “Better Days Ahead.” The initiative represents a dedicated effort towards fostering the well-being of elderly citizens and marks a significant step in creating a more inclusive and compassionate society.

RHIESS aims to provide economic empowerment to 250 vulnerable elderly citizens aged 65 and above across all 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory, and veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA). Each selected beneficiary will receive a sum of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000), serving to alleviate the economic burdens faced by esteemed elders during the festive season.

The total disbursement, approved by the Governing Board of the Renewed Hope Initiative, amounts to Nine Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N950,000,000). With a commitment to fairness, each state will receive Twenty-Five Million Naira (N25,000,000), ensuring an equitable distribution of support without discrimination.

As the nation approaches the festive season, Senator Oluremi Tinubu ably represented by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima emphasized the importance of prioritizing the elderly in societal initiatives. Beyond honoring their contributions, the initiative acknowledges the unique challenges faced by senior citizens.

The First Lady encouraged elderly citizens to embrace life fully, prioritize health, nurture their minds, and strengthen bonds with loved ones and spirituality—a key to a rich and fulfilling life in their golden years.

Expressing gratitude, Senator Tinubu acknowledged the efforts of Excellencies, state coordinators of RHI, and partners who supported the program with free medical screenings and the distribution of sundry items to beneficiaries. Their collective support contributed to the success of RHIESS.

In closing, the First Lady extended holiday wishes and a prayer for a fruitful and fulfilling 2024. She envisioned RHIESS as a beacon of renewed hope, dignity, and prosperity for the revered elders of the nation.

The address concluded with a heartfelt thank you, blessings for the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and a vision for better days ahead.
