Today the 16 days of activism kicked off on our platform with a very interesting topic.
Mrs Omolola talked on “Psychological violence (Identifying problems and solution)”
Psychological violence against women is an attack on the mind. Where other forms of abuse could physically damage the human body, psychological violence attacks the human mind time and time over.
🎯Research has shown that about 65% of psychological violence against women is by a romantic partner. Sadly a husband or boyfriend.
🎯Cultural/Traditional issues.
We have rich cultures in Nigeria but we also have harmful practices that boosts psychological violence against women.
🎯So when we are in our community advocacy programs we have to teach women that it is ok to reach out for help.
🎯Education plays a huge role in saving a woman from psychological Violence. Especially Emotional education, it equips women with mental and social tools to help their self awareness.
🎯when you teach a woman on ways to improve her mental prowess it helps women identify abusive relationships.
🎯So as advocates we need to Break the Silence!
When we encounter such traditions we need to report to the appropriate authorities. We need to fight for these women.
🎯We need professionals in the advocacy space. Counselors, psychologist, therapists, medical doctors, lawyers, nurses, conflict managers, etc.
🎯We need to encourage women and young girls to thrive and attain economic independence.
Yes, the more awareness, the more we achieve.
