In a groundbreaking development, China has unveiled plans that promise to positively impact the lives of a staggering 2.5 million residents within Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory through its ongoing Water Supply Project.
Launched in May 2021, the ambitious Greater Abuja Water Supply Project is the brainchild of CGC Nigeria Limited’s Water Supply Division. The initiative is jointly financed by the Export-Import Bank of China and carefully overseen by the Federal Capital Development Authority.
This critical information was disclosed in an official document received from the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria on Thursday.
The core objective of this massive undertaking is the construction of four pipeline loops, with the potential to bolster the city’s water supply capacity by an impressive 480,000 cubic meters per day.
According to the document, “Upon completion, this project is set to alleviate water scarcity in 50 districts, directly benefiting an estimated 2.5 million residents.”
Yet, this initiative is far more profound than a mere water supply endeavor; it is a comprehensive strategy aimed at elevating the quality of life within the Federal Capital Territory. This will be achieved by ensuring a secure, dependable, and abundant water supply to its residents.
The document further expounds, stating, “The project’s social benefits extend beyond water provision, with a keen focus on raising living standards, creating job opportunities, enhancing international competitiveness, and promoting sustainable development.”
This monumental project marks a pivotal moment in addressing water supply challenges and promises to usher in a new era of progress and prosperity for the region.
