The Women Community in Africa (WCA) today paid a courtesy visit to the Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police, in charge of the Gender Desk Unit of the force, Aishatu Abubakar Baju, where she was honoured with an honorary membership of the organisation.
During the visit, the WCA delegation introduced its members and commended the AIG for her efforts in addressing gender-related issues within the police force and the country at large. The delegation included prominent members such as Hajiya Khadijah Abdullahi Iya, Founder of WCA, Dr Maimoona Salim, the Chief Operating Officer of SI Group who also doubles as the Summit Committee’s Chairperson, Mr Machief Ayuba Mallo, the Chief of Staff, SI Group, and Dr. Maimuna Ummi Abdullahi (Coach Didi), a life coach and mental health expert.

The founder of WCA recalled the organisation’s previous collaboration with the Gender Desk Office, FCT Command, in 2020 and emphasised the importance of continued partnership. As part of their engagement, the group formally requested that AIG Baju be decorated as an honorary member of WCA, highlighting their commitment to strengthening ties with law enforcement for the benefit of society.
Dr Maimoona Salim also took the opportunity to discuss upcoming WCA events, including a high-profile summit in Rwanda aimed at advancing gender empowerment initiatives across the continent.

In response, AIG Aishatu Abubakar Baju expressed gratitude for the recognition and accepted the honorary membership. She welcomed future collaborations with WCA and emphasised the need for synergy between civil society organisations and law enforcement in addressing gender-related challenges.
The meeting reinforced WCA’s commitment to advocating for women’s rights and fostering strategic partnerships to drive meaningful change across Africa.
