FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Calls for Unity and Collective Efforts in Rebuilding Abuja
In his Independence Day message delivered in Abuja on Sunday, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike emphasized the need for collective efforts in rebuilding the nation’s capital, Abuja. Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, stressed that the development of a strong and resilient society requires a joint commitment.
Wike stated, “It means working together to address the issues that confront us, be it in the areas of education, healthcare, infrastructure, or security. It means fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship that empowers our youth and creates opportunities for all.” He further highlighted that as residents of the FCT, they represent not only Nigerians but also the diversity and unity of the nation.
While expressing the FCT Administration’s dedication to enhancing infrastructural development and essential social services to meet residents’ needs, Wike emphasized that this task cannot be achieved by the FCTA alone. He urged all residents to fulfill their civic responsibilities by promptly paying taxes, including ground rent and utility bills, which are crucial for sustaining and improving the city’s services and infrastructure.
Wike urged residents to rededicate themselves to the vision of a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria, emphasizing that their responsibilities as citizens extend beyond their rights. He called for unity and the building of bridges across cultures, religions, and ethnicities, striving to make Abuja a great city.
In his closing remarks, the minister invited every resident to join hands in this collective effort to rebuild and strengthen the capital city of Abuja.
