In a somber turn of events earlier this morning, tragedy struck aboard an Abuja-bound train as one of the escorts lost his life during the trip.
Eyewitnesses report that there were no initial signs of illness when the train departed from Kaduna. However, the situation took a dire turn when the deceased officer complained of chest pain mid-journey. Despite requests for assistance and basic supplies like glucose and water, the train lacked emergency medical care facilities.
A passenger, who happened to be a doctor, rushed to offer aid, but tragically, the officer passed away before any help could be administered.
Upon the officer’s demise, his remains were respectfully moved to a secluded area of the train, with his face respectfully covered. Security personnel were swift in preventing passengers from recording the distressing incident.
The train eventually arrived at Kubwa in Abuja at approximately 3:20 pm, where passengers disembarked, undoubtedly shaken by the ordeal.
Approximately 20 minutes after the train’s arrival, police vans arrived at the station to transport the officer’s body to a mortuary.
Efforts to reach Mahmoud Yakubu, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, proved futile as his telephone line was switched off at the time of filing this report.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adequate medical provisions and emergency response measures, particularly in transportation services, as lives can be at stake in critical moments.
