In a distressing incident, Jethro Onose, a student of the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Imeri in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, was abducted alongside his father, Mr. Onose, early Monday morning.
Onose, a Senior Secondary School (SSS) I student, was returning to school after a three-week holiday when the abduction occurred. According to a source within the Navy school, Mr. Onose was conveying his son back to school when armed men intercepted them along a notorious route on the Edo and Ondo road, leading them into the bush.
The news of the abduction surfaced as other students were settling back into their dormitories after the break. Oluyemi Fasipe, a prominent Ondo-based social activist, also confirmed the incident via a tweet on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Efforts to reach the authorities of the Navy secondary school were unsuccessful, and the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, could not immediately confirm the kidnapping when contacted. However, the Superintendent of Police, Odunlami-Omisanya, assured that she would follow up with the District Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area and provide updates as soon as possible.
This alarming incident underscores the vulnerability of students and civilians to criminal activities, leaving the community in shock and raising concerns about security measures along major routes.
This also serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect citizens and ensure the safety of students commuting to and from schools.
