Austin Ilom, an employee of Zenith Bank at the Suleja branch, tragically passed away after being abducted from his residence in Kubwa three weeks ago. Reports indicate that despite efforts to secure his release, Ilom’s life was cut short.
According to statements from Joe Igbokwe, a source close to the situation, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of 50 million naira. Shockingly, the bank declined to assist due to the abduction occurring at Ilom’s home and not during work hours. Allegedly, Senator Agom Jarigbe, Ilom’s brother-in-law, insisted on the bank contributing to the ransom before taking action.
With the bank contributing only 3 million naira, colleagues and friends rallied together, managing to raise a total of 11.5 million naira. However, despite handing over the negotiated sum, the kidnappers demanded the outstanding balance.
In a tragic turn of events, Ilom was retrieved in a critical condition. Upon arrival at Bwari Hospital, he urgently requested water but sadly passed away before receiving it. He was recognized as the top marketing staff at the Suleja branch, leaving behind a legacy of excellence.
The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the handling of kidnappings and the safety of individuals in their residences. Authorities are yet to comment on the matter.
