Nigeria has again taken her stand in the global community as renowned Nigerian movie star, Stephanie Linus, has taken on the important role of leading the Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) for the category of Best International Feature Film at the esteemed Academy Awards, commonly known as the Oscars.
The NOSC made the announcement about Stephanie’s appointment shortly after the founder, Chineze Anyaene-Abonyi, officially stepped down from her position.
According to reports, Anyaene-Abonyi’s decision to resign came after she successfully obtained the Oscars’ renewed endorsement for the NOSC, in preparation for the upcoming 96th edition of the Academy Awards scheduled for 2024.
This recent development came about following the acceptance of a revamped 14-member NOSC team by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), following the departure of the former chairperson.
Among the restructured NOSC members are Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC); well-known figure in the Nigerian film industry, Omotola Jolade-Ekeinde; Dr. Victor Okhai, the President of the Directors’ Guild of Nigeria (DGN); Mr. Andy Amenechi, former President of DGN; Yibo Koko, a distinguished theater practitioner; and Izu Ojukwu, a writer/director, along with others.
