The Special Military Task Force operating in Plateau State has successfully apprehended two notorious kidnappers and 89 other criminals in both Plateau and the neighboring Kaduna State.
The Media Officer of the task force, Captain Oya James, delivered this crucial information in a press statement issued today in Jos.
Captain James reported that the task force executed a series of operations throughout the past week, yielding highly favorable outcomes. Notably, during this period, four suspects were tried and convicted, while numerous kidnap victims were rescued, along with the recovery of stolen cattle.
He stated, “Troops belonging to Operation Safe Haven, as part of Operation Hakorin Damisa IV, conducted multiple operations from September 25 to October 4, 2023, resulting in the apprehension of 91 criminal suspects involved in various crimes such as the kidnapping of University of Jos students, attacks on Takania village, farm destruction, armed robbery, drug peddling, and cattle rustling, among other offenses.”
The two infamous kidnappers, Bashiru Musa and Idris Abdulrahman, who had long eluded the grasp of OPSH, were finally captured at Mista Ali village in the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. These individuals, during their interrogation, admitted their involvement in the kidnapping of seven University of Jos students in July 2023. Among the items seized from them was one AK-47 rifle loaded with 12 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
Furthermore, acting on credible intelligence, the courageous troops apprehended Mr. Goma Abubakar and Jibril Abass in connection with the brutal attack on Takania village in the Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where six innocent individuals lost their lives.
The task force commander has reassured the general public that all arrested suspects will be prosecuted in court upon the conclusion of thorough investigations. This operation underscores the unwavering commitment of the Special Military Task Force in ensuring the safety and security of the region.
