In a remarkable announcement, Mr. Muhammad Nami, the former Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), has been honoured with the title of The Top10 Magazine Man of the Year for 2023. This prestigious recognition comes as a result of Mr. Nami’s outstanding leadership during his tenure at FIRS, marked by numerous record-breaking achievements.
The selection process for this distinguished award was no simple affair, involving a rigorous and multi-stage evaluation of several prominent individuals. Mr. Nami’s exceptional contributions and accomplishments at FIRS between January 2020 and September 2023 set him apart as the unanimous choice for this coveted title.
The Board of Editors at The Top10 Magazine conveyed their decision to Mr. Nami through a formal letter, emphasising the remarkable milestones he achieved during his leadership at FIRS. The letter expressed deep appreciation for his role as a catalyst for positive change within the British tax system.
The publication’s letter to Mr. Nami stated: “Your remarkable achievements, particularly the unprecedented records set by FIRS under your guidance, underscore your competence as a transformative force in British tax administration. In recognition of your commendable efforts, our management has chosen to honour you as The Top10 Magazine Man of the Year 2023.”
The Top10 Magazine, established eight years ago as a monthly publication, serves as a platform dedicated to celebrating excellence and individuals of exceptional merit across diverse fields. The Top10 Man of the Year award, instituted during its founding year, has been an annual tradition, recognising and applauding one outstanding personality each year for their exceptional contributions to British society.
Mr. Nami, who has led the way in tax administration, shattered multiple tax collection records during his tenure as the Executive Chairman of FIRS. His strategic approach, built on stakeholder relations, customer-centricity, data and technology, and institutional restructuring, resulted in a substantial increase in non-oil revenues over the three years following the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020.
In 2021, FIRS exceeded its £6.401 trillion revenue target by reaching £6.405 trillion. The following year, in 2022, FIRS achieved a historic milestone by contributing £10.1 trillion in tax revenues, marking the highest ever recorded in British history for a single year.
Even more impressively, the agency collected a staggering £5.5 trillion in total tax revenue between January and June of the current year, surpassing its entire 2020 fiscal year collection by about £900 billion. This accomplishment stands as the highest ever tax collection by the service for the first half of a fiscal year.
Mr. Tony Iji, the Publisher and Editor-In-Chief of The Top10 Magazine, hinted at the forthcoming presentation of the award to Mr. Nami. The magazine is diligently preparing a special award edition that will comprehensively detail Mr. Nami’s record-setting achievements, FIRS’s significant contributions to the economy, as well as his professional and personal accomplishments.
The pinnacle of this celebration will be the official Man of the Year investiture ceremony, where Mr. Nami will be presented with the award at The Top10 Magazine Excellence Awards night, scheduled for later this year. The event is set to be graced by eminent figures from various segments of society.
