The Federal Government has given its seal of approval for the creation of seven new tertiary institutions within the country. The announcement was made today by Obilor-Duru Augustina Okechi, the Assistant Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, on behalf of the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman.
This groundbreaking decision entails the establishment of two federal universities, the conversion of two colleges of education into federal universities of education, and the establishment of three new colleges of education.
The two federal universities set to grace the educational landscape are the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Kwale, Delta State, and the Federal University of Agriculture in Mubi, Adamawa State.
Additionally, Adeyemi College of Education in Ondo, Ondo State, and Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education in Owerri, Imo State, have been transformed into federal universities of education.
Notably, three new Colleges of Education have been added to the roster, namely the Federal College of Education in Ilawe Ekiti, Ekiti State, the Federal College of Education in Ididep, Ibiono, Akwa Ibom State, and the Federal College of Education (Technical) in Yauri, Kebbi State.
In a statement released by the Federal Ministry of Education, it was emphasized that “The establishment and conversion of these institutions is a further demonstration of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the education sector and will help in improving access to tertiary education in the country.” This development marks a significant stride in advancing the nation’s educational landscape.
