Tragedy has struck again in Plateau State, as the death toll from the brutal attack on Zurak village in Wase local government area has climbed to 56.
The community was left reeling after bandits unleashed a wave of violence, killing 50 and injuring many more. The devastating assault prompted residents to flee in search of safety.
However, in a somber turn of events, additional bodies were discovered after the initial burial of 50 victims. According to traditional ruler Lawal Idris, who played a crucial role in the burial process, six more male bodies were found, bringing the total number of fatalities to 56.
In a glimmer of hope, the arrival of soldiers on Tuesday has brought a sense of security to the community.
Many residents who had fled in fear have now returned to their homes, grateful for the presence of security forces. As Lawal Idris expressed, “Our main problem is security. Now that security is present, we are confident in staying in our village.”
The people of Zurak village are still reeling from the trauma of the attack, but the increased security presence offers a beacon of hope for a return to peace and stability.
