President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, along with their teams, are planning to allocate a significant amount N15.961 billion for travel purposes in 2024. While this includes both domestic and international travel, a substantial portion of this budget is set aside for foreign trips.
The breakdown reveals that President Tinubu plans to allocate N7.630 billion, mainly directed towards foreign travels (N6.992 billion) and domestic trips (N638.535 million). Similarly, Vice President Shettima is projected to utilize N1.847 billion, with N1.229 billion earmarked for foreign journeys and N618.399 million for local travels.
This budget also includes N6.484 billion designated for the Villa Headquarters’ travel expenses, encompassing both international and local trips. This allocation covers N6.282 billion for international travel, N60.981 million for local training-related journeys, and N140.640 million for other domestic trips.
However, this significant allocation for travel expenses amidst the broader budget of N40.616 billion for Villa Headquarters raises questions about the prioritization of funds. Nigerians might seek transparency and clarity on how this expenditure will directly benefit national interests and citizens, especially considering the broader financial allocations within the federal budget.
