A ₦2 million naira bounty has been placed on Adachukwu Chukelu-Okafor, who is currently at large, following allegations of violating her 11-year-old house help. The Federal Government has pledged ₦2 million naira to anyone providing information leading to her whereabouts. Chukelu-Okafor, an Anambra-based lawyer, stands accused of subjecting her 11-year-old house help to severe abuse, including allegedly inserting a hot knife into the child’s private part and inflicting other injuries with a pressing iron. The issue gained attention after a viral video surfaced following the child’s return to the aunt who had employed her as a house help.
“The urgency to locate Chukelu-Okafor stems from the serious injuries sustained by the victim, who is currently hospitalized. This could happen to any child, making it imperative that we take action,” stated the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs.
The case of Adachukwu, accused of harming her 11-year-old house help, has sparked outrage among the public and government authorities alike. Questions have arisen regarding the ministry’s consistent involvement in such cases, with some advocating for vigilante justice. However, the ministry asserts its responsibility to intervene in matters involving the welfare of children and women nationwide.
In response to this egregious act, the government has announced plans to enact a ban on employing housekeepers under the age of 18, aiming to curb child abuse and exploitation. Additionally, an enforcement program led by the Federal Ministry of Justice is slated to ensure compliance with this regulation.
“We are committed to apprehending the offender so that justice can be served.
