Official Statement by the Global President, Women Community in Africa (WCA)
The Women Community in Africa (WCA) expresses deep concern and profound distress over the incessant kidnapping of schoolchildren across Nigeria. The persistent targeting of schools has created a climate of fear, insecurity, and psychological trauma for children, parents, and communities nationwide.
These attacks have become a recurring nightmare. No child should wake up with the fear of being abducted while pursuing an education, and no parent should live with the constant anxiety of not knowing if their child will return home safely. The emotional scars inflicted on victims—even after their release—are long-lasting, affecting their trust, mental well-being, and overall development.
The continued abduction of schoolchildren is not just a security issue; it is a national emergency with far-reaching consequences. The fear generated by these incidents is contributing significantly to the rising number of out-of-school children, particularly girls, whose education is already threatened by various socio-economic barriers. This is unacceptable.
WCA calls for immediate, collective, and strategic action from all levels of government, security agencies, community leaders, and stakeholders. Our children must be protected. Schools must be safe. Education must not become a battleground.
We stand with every affected child, every grieving parent, and every community living in fear. WCA remains committed to advocating for the safety, dignity, and rights of all children across Africa.
Signed,
Dr. Adetoun Dally
Global President, Women Community in Africa (WCA)
