House of Representatives Urges Security Agencies to Combat Rising Violence in Kanam

In a move to address the alarming rise in violence, the House of Representatives has called on the military, police, and other security agencies to tackle the increasing isolated killings and kidnappings in various communities.

This action came after Rep. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi highlighted the growing insecurity during Wednesday’s plenary session. Gagdi pointed out that his constituency has seen numerous documented cases of targeted threats, kidnappings, and assaults.

Expressing deep concern, Gagdi noted that Kanam forest has turned into a refuge for bandits and Boko Haram terrorists, fueled by an influx of people from other states.

In response, the House urged the Chief of Defence Staff to set up two military bases in Kanam—one in the Gun-Gagdi area and another in the Garga axis. Additionally, the House called on the Inspector-General of Police and the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to deploy more personnel to Gun-Gagdi, Garga, Pankshin, and Kanke to restore safety and order.

With the establishment of military bases and additional police deployment, communities may feel more secure, potentially reducing fear and anxiety among the populace.

And also, the Increased security can lead to more stable environments, encouraging local businesses and economic activities to thrive without the constant threat of violence and disruption.
