The Minister of Works, David Umahi, In a recent development, has expressed strong disapproval over the vandalism of the Second Niger Bridge. The damage, which specifically targeted the joints that allow the bridge to expand and contract with temperature changes, has been described as a ‘cowardly’ act by Orji Uchenna Orji, a lawyer and special adviser (media) to the minister.
Minister Umahi did not hold back in his condemnation, labeling the act as a deliberate attempt to undermine a critical piece of national infrastructure. He said, It’s shocking that someone would destroy such an important and strategic asset that benefits not just the nearby states, but the entire country. The Second Niger Bridge is vital for connecting various regions and boosting economic activities, making this vandalism particularly damaging.
To address the issue, the minister announced that stronger security measures are being put in place to prevent further damage. A technical team has also been tasked with assessing and repairing the damage as quickly as possible.
However, in an effort to catch those responsible, the Federal Ministry of Works is offering a substantial reward for any information leading to the arrest of the vandals.
Umahi promised, that they will ensure that those behind this are brought to justice, emphasizing the government’s determination to protect and maintain national infrastructure.
The incident has not only caused inconvenience but also threatens the economic stability and development facilitated by the bridge.
