President Bola Tinubu has given his official approval for the appointment of Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi as the Mandate Secretary of the newly established Women Affairs Secretariat within the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
This announcement was relayed through an official statement by Anthony Ogunleye, the Director of Press for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and was disseminated via the FCTA’s official platform. The decision to establish the Women Affairs Secretariat underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to building an inclusive government that addresses the concerns of all segments of the population within the FCT.
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the FCT, unveiled this initiative during a press conference in Abuja on Friday. The formation of the Women Affairs Secretariat is aimed at addressing a wide range of issues affecting women in the FCT.
Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, born in 1965 and hailing from Ogun State, was selected for this crucial role due to her exceptional qualities and unwavering dedication to public service. With a career spanning over 35 years as a communications consultant, social entrepreneur, international mentor, and environmentalist, Mrs. Benjamins-Laniyi brings a wealth of experience to her new position.
Her commitment to women’s political participation was exemplified by her bid for a senatorial position within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2022. Serving as the Grand Matron of ‘Hope Again for FCT Women in Politics,’ she has played a pivotal role in inspiring and mentoring women in the field of politics.
Anthony Ogunleye underscored that Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi’s deep understanding of the political landscape, her passion for addressing social issues affecting women and children, and her proficiency in handling complex policy challenges all position her as a driving force in advancing women’s rights and overall well-being within the Federal Capital Territory.
In her own words, Mrs. Benjamins-Laniyi expressed, “I believe that every woman is born a politician. As a girl-child, one is always working out how to utilize one’s relationships to one’s best interests, based on how one interacts with the decision makers in one’s life. The power of a woman’s influence comes from how she navigates her way through relationships, from childhood through adolescence to adulthood.” This appointment is set to make a significant impact in promoting women’s interests in the FCT.
