The air component of “Operation Hadin Kai” has successfully neutralized a significant terrorist threat in Borno State, Nigeria. The operation led to the destruction of five terrorists’ gun trucks located at two separate sites in Tumbuns, on the fringes of Lake Chad.
According to Air Cdre Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) executed the strikes between September 27 and September 30, 2023. These actions were prompted by verified reports of terrorist activities that posed a direct threat to both military installations and law-abiding residents in the affected regions.
At Tumbun Fulani, NAF surveillance detected terrorists loading jerricans into two concealed gun trucks hidden under shrubs. Responding swiftly, NAF aircraft were dispatched to engage what appeared to be a major logistics base. The subsequent “Battle Damage Assessment” revealed that multiple terrorists were neutralized, and the gun trucks were completely destroyed.
Similarly, at Tumbun Shitu, NAF carried out strikes after discovering structures believed to be terrorist hideouts hidden beneath dense foliage. Three gun trucks, accompanied by terrorists, were observed moving into the area. In response, an airstrike was authorized, resulting in the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of the gun trucks.
Air Cdre Edward Gabkwet reiterated the unwavering determination of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to significantly curtail terrorist activities in the Northeast and across the country. He credited the recent operational successes to enhanced cooperation and synergy among all security agencies, along with the steadfast support of the Nigerian people.
The decisive action taken by the NAF in this operation underscores the commitment of the Nigerian military to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens in the face of terrorist threats.
