The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, took decisive action on Thursday by ordering the immediate posting and redeployment of 40 senior police officers across the nation. This strategic move involves 14 Assistant Inspectors General of Police and 26 Commissioners of Police, aiming to enhance the effectiveness and professionalism of the force.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the reshuffling is part of a broader initiative to create a professional, competent, service-driven, rule of law-compliant, and people-friendly police force. This move also aligns with the recent elevation of senior officers to their next ranks.
The decision to implement these changes received the stamp of approval from the Police Service Commission, signaling a collective commitment to the ongoing reforms within the police force.
The newly posted and redeployed officers have been tasked by the Inspector-General to align their efforts with the force’s policies and actively support the government’s agenda for economic recovery, growth, and sociopolitical development. Egbetokun emphasized the importance of entrenching professionalism and delivering diligent policing services to all officers and personnel under their command.
Among the notable Assistant Inspectors General of Police deployed are Ogundele Ayodeji (Zone 7, Abuja), Patrick Edung (Zone 11 Osogbo), and Godwin Aghaulor (Zone 13 Ukpo Dunukofia Awka).
The reshuffle also affects 26 Commissioners of Police, including George Chuku (Benue State), Ahmed Tijani (Jigawa State), and Disu Rilwan (Rivers State), who have been redeployed to various commands, reflecting a strategic move to optimize the skills and experience of the police leadership.
The Inspector-General urged the newly assigned officers to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to bring policing closer to the people, underscoring the commitment to fostering stronger ties between law enforcement and the community.
